Current city, state, country: Los Angeles, CA, USA
My profession: Voice Actor/On-Camera Actor
Describe your daily routine before the pandemic and during: I would record auditions in the morning at home then head to the one of the studios that I was scheduled to work at to work on either a cartoon, anime, or video game. Then I would go home and stream on twitch for my fans.
This pandemic makes me feel like: I just feel defeated and frustrated. I have been able to record a little bit from home but I don't have the money to upgrade my equipment at home to have the same broadcast quality equipment that a studio has so anything that is being recorded right now you will be able to tell when you watch it back. The real hero's are the engineers that are going to work their magic to make everything at least sound cohesive and way better than it is. It is really hard recording from home especially anime. Dubbing is already VERY hard to do and doing it remotely from home is very frustrating. POSSIBLE yes but frustrating nonetheless.
This pandemic makes me think: How much I miss going to the studios.
This pandemic makes me hope/pray for: Universal healthcare. Maybe this pandemic will open more people's eyes to seeing that universal healthcare is way better than the system we have now and is absolutely necessary.
If I had Three Wishes:1. A fully treated home studio to record from home in. 2. Universal healthcare. 3. A cure for Crohn's disease.
What I think of the government’s response: Our Governments response has been appalling. I have Crohn's disease which is an auto immune disorder, meaning that if I catch COVID-19 I have a high chance of dying from this. Our President first said this virus was a hoax, then said "it was just a flu". This made a lot of people not take this seriously resulting in more people getting sick and dying. We have several Politicians who have come forward and say that "our elderly and people with pre-existing conditions are willing to die for the economy" and as a person with a pre-existing condition, no we are not and how dare you basically say we are not worth trying to keep safe. And to put the cherry on top, our president has told our country that they should protest outside in big groups close together to try and open back up businesses which will inevitably result in more people getting sick!. And then because fast food workers and people who work at grocery stores are important and needed they have to still work and risk their lives but they are only getting paid minimum wage meaning most of these people are still struggling to pay rent even thought they are risking their lives. Oh and their insurance is terrible so if they catch the virus they won't get the best care either.
Recommendations for TV shows, movies, books or podcasts: Dino Girl Gauko, One Punch Man, Somali and the Forest Spirit, Magia Record, Trolls: The Beat Goes On, Where's Waldo, and on Cartoon Network's youtube page they have a short of a show called Splitting Time that everyone should check out!
Before this pandemic, my plans for the next 6 months were: Getting the place I just moved into organized, working out at my new gym I just signed up for, finding a place to do my aerial circus work in, save my money to get a dog, I wanted to do a music collaboration with my friends.
Predictions for when this will get better/end: Well when I was talking with my sister a week ago she said the doctors at the University of Washington said if we want to make sure we are safe to stay on lock down until august but now that we have stupid people going out and protesting/not social distancing, they will make this worse and make it so we have to stay on lock down for longer! But we really need to practice safety until there is a vaccine so I don't know.
What I have in my fridge/freezer and pantry: Gochujang.
Ways I’m coping: Playing video games and pole-dancing.
Creative things to do with kids: My niece loves video chatting and playing with the filters on the cameras and she loves watching me play Mario Odyssey (great game on the switch)! Drawing, coloring, dancing.
General advice/thoughts/anxieties to share with others: Be careful and stay at home AS MUCH as possible but if you HAVE to leave WEAR A MASK! Not just to protect yourself but to protect other people because you might be a carrier and not know it!
